The Demagogue Dialogue (GogLog for short) is an open forum for the thought-provoking discussion of all kinds of political, religious, and social issues. It is an unmoderated mailing list; what you mail is what they see. I only step in when I'm asked to. Despite the name, pure demagoguery isn't really tolerated that well; you've got to be able to discuss your opinions, defend them with reason, and give a good account of yourself. Mindless zealotry will only cause people to sneer at you. Above all, be prepared to agree to disagree. Messages sent to GogLog are archived on the web, and are viewable to the general public. If this bothers you, please consider subscribing under a pseudonym. A few rules to keep in mind: * NO PUBLIC PERSONAL ABUSE. This isn't alt.flame. Gentle haranguing is fine (and in fact is frequently the norm), but if you want to get personal, take it to private E-mail. However, be warned: if I get too many complaints that you're being abusive, even in private E-mail, to members of the mailing list, I may very well drop you from the list as a preventive measure. I may not be able to stop your stupidity, but I will not provide a public outlet for it. * NO GRATUITOUS PROFANITY. Generally speaking, we're not prudes in any definition of the term. Strong language has its uses and there's not a single person on the list that hasn't used it occasionally. However, we recognize the fact that simply stringing a bunch of four letter words together does not constitute intelligent reasoning. People are going to disagree with your opinions here. If you can't defend your opinions using logic and reason, don't air them. * NO ADVERTISEMENTS. I don't care if you're offering the world on a popsicle stick and a million dollars to take it from you. Post an advertisement here and I WILL throw you off the mailing list. If two advertisments from the same site show up on GogLog, I will throw the WHOLE SITE off the mailing list, and that site will remain under interdiction until I get word from the postmaster at that site that the perpetrators have been booted. I will not have my people submitted to your unsolicited SHIT. (See, there's a perfectly acceptable use of profanity!) Oh, and don't worry; I'm quite adept at detecting forged messages and From: lines. Don't even bother to try. * NO SPAM. This means everything else in the annoying Email category: Little Kids Dying Of Cancer Trying To Get Into The Guinness Book of World Records, Exploding Whale Stories, Mouse Ball Jokes, Virus Warnings, Cult Warnings, Gang Initiation Warnings, Horrendously Expensive Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipies and so on. If you've been around the Internet for a while, you know the type of idiocy I'm talking about. If you're a newcomer, just wait... * NO BINARY FILES. This means executables, pictures, audio captures, or what have you. If it's something relevant, contact me and we'll work something out... but if you post it to the mailing list, be prepared to suffer the consequences. ACCESS TO, AND PARTICIPATION IN, THE DEMAGOGUE DIALOGUE IS A PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT. ABUSE THAT PRIVILEGE AND YOU *WILL* LOSE IT. To post a message to all the list members, send email to goglog@mail.zarquon.net. You can subscribe to the list, or change your existing subscription, in the sections below.
